CHRISTMAS IN THE PARKING LOT

Christmas in the Parking Lot you say? For several years the downtown church has sponsored Christmas in the Parking Lot. On Christmas day various members of the church and other groups (church or others) came together to provide Christmas gifts for the downtown friends and neighbors who might have been experiencing homelessness. Since the Christmas of the year the Prairie Campus was established, we have been known as “the underwear church,” since we had chosen to gift new men’s and women’s underwear on Christmas Day.

New underwear and socks… just what folks want for Christmas! For men and women who may be experiencing homelessness, new socks and undies are a treat. For men, we have found that boxer briefs in colors (not regular boxers or “tighty whities”) are most in demand, and for women “boycut” undies are the preferred style. Small, medium, and large are the sizes most in requested for both men and women. As for socks, warm winter socks for both men and women would be appreciated.

Serving on Christmas isn’t an all-day affair. Set up will begin at 10:00 a.m., gifting will begin at 11:00, and we will be cleaned up and on our way by 1:30 p.m. FUMC has a parking lot on the north/St. Vrain side (with the green awning) and we will be setting up there. If you are interested in helping set up, clean up, or giving out gifts at our table please let Kymm Hockman (kymm@genesisequipping.com) or Susan Wheeler (m_swheeler@msn.com) know. Gather your undies and socks, there will be a collection box December 8 to 22.
